Secondary Reading Council of
Florida
Teacher of the Year Award
The Secondary Reading Council of Florida (SRCF), a special interest
council of FRA and an affiliate of IRA, has established this award to
honor an exemplary reading teacher at the secondary level.
Nominations are solicited from the districts via a letter, and/or
through the SRC website. Deadline is April 1st, 2012.

The following criteria must be addressed in the documentation:
1. A one page
overview of your accomplishments related to being a secondary literacy
educator.
2. The nominee must currently be teaching reading in
a secondary level (6-12) middle or senior high school classroom.
3. The nominee must hold membership in both SRCFL and
FRA (documentation is required).
4. The nominee must provide three (3) letters of
recommendation:
a. One letter from a student
b. One letter from a supervisor (principal and/or district level
personnel)
c . One letter from a colleague or parent
5. Submit three to five examples of student’s
work to demonstrate a special focus on reading.
6. Must be submitted on a DVD or scanned via email
attachment.
The award recipient will receive $250 to use for future reading
materials (personal or professional), a certificate and free
registration to next year’s Secondary Reading Conference.
The award will be presented at the Annual Secondary Reading Council of
Florida Conference. A letter will be sent to the recipient’s
superintendent and a publicity release will be sent to local media by
the Awards Committee.
